In 1882, when the company was founded by Herr Hecker in conjunction with the Spies brothers, its focus was the painting of coaches.
As the production of the world's first motor cars gained speed in the 20th century, Spies Hecker commenced production of refinishing paints for cars. As early as 1946, industrial refinishing was included in its range and less than 10 years later, Spies Hecker entered the export market.
